甲胺有廣泛的工業(yè)用途。一甲胺可作醫(yī)藥（激活、咖啡因、麻黃素等）、農(nóng)藥（西維因、樂果、殺蟲脒等）、染料（茜素中間體、蒽醌系中間體等）、炸藥及燃料（水膠炸藥、一甲肼等）、表面活性劑、促進(jìn)劑、以及橡膠助劑、照相化學(xué)品和溶劑等的原料。
在常溫下為無色有氨臭的氣體、或液體。易燃燒，其蒸氣能與空氣形成爆炸性混合物，爆炸極限5%-21%（4.95%-20.75%）。相對(duì)密度0.662，熔點(diǎn)為-93.5℃，沸點(diǎn)為-6.3～-6.7℃，-19.7℃（53.3kPa），-32.4℃（26.7kPa），-43.7℃（13.3kPa），-73.8℃（1.33kPa），分解溫度250℃，閃點(diǎn)（閉杯）0℃，自燃點(diǎn)430℃，蒸氣壓（25℃）202.65Pa，臨界溫度156.9℃，臨界壓力4.073kPa，折射率1.351。液化后發(fā)煙體，比氨具有更強(qiáng)的堿性。易溶于水、乙醇和乙醚。12.5℃時(shí)1體積水能溶解1154體積的甲胺氣體，25℃時(shí)能溶解959體積。在25℃100ml被飽和的苯溶液中含甲胺10.5。溶于醇、醚。一般商品為30-40%水溶液。40%一甲胺水溶液沸點(diǎn)49.4℃，閃點(diǎn)-9.94℃，相對(duì)密度0.904，蒸氣壓（20℃）37.330kPa，粘度（40℃）0.0015Pa·s。
